Activated Carbon Water Filter

The activated carbon filter is probably the most popular type of water filter.  This is the most effective type of filter to remove organic contaminants.  Organic contaminants which include chemicals are most often responsible for taste or order problems with your water.  What happens when water passes through this filter is that the carbon particles will attract and remove these contaminants which may include items such as lead,mercury, copper, hydrogen sulfide and chlorine.

1. Granular activated carbon filters contain a cartridge full of activated carbon granules.  The filter’s numerous carbon granules remove substances dissolved in the water such as heavy metals and harmful chlorine and trap unwanted particles.

2. Solid-Block Activated Carbon filters use activated carbon particles that have been compressed into a dense material.  The water passes through the very small pores of this material, which traps contaminants such as chlorine,, pesticides, lead and asbestos.
